Spacial Audio first opened its doors in 1999 with the introduction of SAM Broadcaster radio automation software, after recognizing that the internet was opening up new opportunities for radio.
As time progressed, Spacial Audio recognized the needs of broadcasters and worked towards providing end-to-end solutions for the radio hobbyist industry. During the mid 2000’s, Spacial added SAM DJ to its product offering – a full-featured, professional DJ system designed to meet the needs of house DJs, in addition to SAM Cast, a live audio encoder. In 2006, Spacial introduced SpacialNet, a stream hosting division of Spacial Audio. The stream hosting services were designed to complement Spacial’s advanced online radio software, SAM Broadcaster and SAM Cast.
In 2009, Spacial was acquired by Triton Digital®, the global technology and services leader to the digital audio and podcast industry. Triton’s acquisition of Spacial Audio provided Spacial with access to cutting-edge streaming technology and expert knowledge of the radio industry, in addition to creating synergies that have propelled the continuous growth of Spacial Audio.
Fast forward to 2012, Spacial introduced SAM VIBE, a powerful Internet radio broadcasting application that was created to simplify radio broadcasting through a simplified and fully-accessible interface that allows broadcasters to create their own commercial-quality radio stations right from their PCs.
In the same year, Spacial released the SAM Broadcaster Studio and SAM Cast Studio software, intended for broadcasters who want to transmit to their local communities or further afield with a traditional AM or FM station. The studio software is used in conjunction with radio broadcast licensing and hardware requirements that are governed by an array of broadcasting laws, regulations, and requirements which vary from location to location.
In 2015, Spacial rebranded SAM VIBE to SAM Broadcaster Cloud, a hybrid between SAM Live DJ and the cloud services. Named to reflect the accessible, cloud-based service offered to broadcasters, SAM Broadcaster Cloud enables station owners to manage their stations in the cloud, and stream their stations live from anywhere in the world at any time.
SAM Broadcaster Cloud is available via four packages: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Enterprise. It can also be customized for broadcasters unique requirements. The most recently introduced Enterprise package is for larger radio broadcasters who are interested in monetizing their station streams. SAM Cloud continues to solidify its place in the industry as one of the leading cloud-based radio automation solutions with its growing suite of features and capabilities. Over the years, SAM Cloud has managed to introduce a number of innovative features such as free customizable hosted player pages, website widgets, user interface theme updates, feature requests, DJ management ability, social media integrations, voice tracking, and most recently, a mobile application.
Spacial has also tailored its products to meet specific market needs through offering customized packages including Background Music for in-store music providers, Radio Software for Schools, a Non-Profit Package designed to help non-profit organizations increase their reach, and an in-world music solution for Second Life.
Today, our products and services are used in more than 160 countries. ‘’It’s been an amazing 20 years, 14 of which I have had the privilege to be part of. We’re looking forward to many more years of great technology and happy customers enjoying our products and services,” said Kallie Landman, Chief Technology Officer at Spacial Audio. “We are excited about the future as we continue to develop the best tools possible for people starting their careers in radio broadcasting.”
